In questo topic segnalerò i più interessanti album presenti sul mercato che vale la pena comprare.
Inizio consigliando il nuovo disco dei REM, Accelerate, uscito da pochissimo. Rem che dopo due passi falsi in studio piuttosto palesi tornano finalmente con un album degno davvero interessante.

In passato ho comprato due degli album meno riusciti dei REM (up e Reveal). Forse se nn compro questo le cose potrebbero andare meglio per Stype & Co. . -

ma quei due lì fanno effettivamente pena rispetto a capolavori dal calibro di murmur, out of time e automatic for the people. accelerate non è un picco, ma di sicuro è un buon disco in questi tempi bui ed un buon punto per ricominciare a salire. . -

JENS LEKMAN - Night Falls Over Kortedala
Senza dubbio uno degli album più belli che io abbia mai sentito ultimamente. Forse il migliore del 2007, sempre considerando In Rainbows dei soliti sospetti. Sono anche particolarmente soddisfatto di questa scoperta perché Lekman rimane abbastanza sconosciuto nell'ambito Pop attuale ed è un peccato perché in quanto ad arrangiamenti è veramente un fenomeno e probabile figlio ed ereditario del testimone e dello stile proprio del miglior Burt Bacharach.. -

ARCADE FIRE - Neon Bible
Un disco eccezionale, secondo di questa band (il primo, funeral, altrettanto bello), consigliatissimo per chi volesse ascoltare dell'ottimo rock alternativo.
Oltretutto gli Arcade Fire sono una delle migliori band attuali dal vivo in assoluto.. -

HERCULES AND LOVE AFFAIR - Hercules And Love Affair
Disco disco-pop del Dj Andrew Butler, noto per aver lavorato in warehouse party, ma soprattutto leather bar, ovvero locali appositi per quella frangia di omosessuali appassionati di sadomaso.
La musica infatti di Butler è una rielaborazione della musica da ballo più soulful, quella storicamente più legata alle comunità gay di tutto il mondo, New York e Chicago in testa. La house dei primordi, quindi.. -

Main Offender-Keith Richards
Disco da solista per il chitarrista degli Stones,Keith Richards,inciso nel 1992.Sonorità tipiche del rock di Richards,accordatura aperta come da tradizione.
Presente anche una traccia reggae che crea un'atmosfera jamaicana,tipica dell'immagine del chitarrista.
Cantato e suonato da lui,assieme ad altri musicisti di grande livello.

DIVINE COMEDY - Absent Friends
With Absent Friends, Neil Hannon returns to the glorious whimsical form of his crooning pop masterpieces. While Regeneration seemed mired in murkiness and awkwardly styled angry tunes, and some wondered if Hannon would recover from sacking his bandmates, Absent Friends sees Hannon blending the finest themes of his previous albums into a gorgeous, mature tapestry of musical adventures. Longtime associate Jobi Talbot lends his usual magic and Regeneration producer Nigel Godrich stays on as mixer, allowing Hannon to expertly man the production boards himself. Album closer "Charmed Life," which marries twinkling pianos with airy orchestration and a thoroughly jolly sense of self-discovery, is perhaps most indicative of Hannon's rediscovered optimism. The song perfectly blends the light, literary style of Promenade and Liberation, but with the added crunch and bombast of Hannon's West End-leaning Casanova and Fin de Siècle. "Sticks & Stones" also traverses Casanova territory, while "Come Home Billy Bird," "Absent Friends," and "The Happy Goth" all feel like souped-up versions of Promenade and Liberation tunes. "Come Home Billy Bird" seems like the mature artist's version of "Bernice Bobs Her Hair." Where Hannon sang of schoolgirl pettiness on the latter, he moves onto the problems business travel causes family life on the former. Thus, Hannon has found a way to mix semi-autobiographical subject matter with the witty pop melodies that are his bread and butter. As always, it's Hannon's superb wit and impeccable sense of timing that allow him to mingle delicate and simultaneously revelatory turns of phrase for maximum emotional and musical effect. Who else could pull off a touching yet hilarious song like "The Happy Goth," where Hannon sings of lonely yet happy young lady "who wears Doc Martens and a heavy cross"? It is perhaps "Our Mutual Friend" that really drives home the confidence and sublime nature of Hannon's songwriting and execution at this stage of his career. Hannon had mined the orchestral strings and minimalism of composer and associate Michael Nyman in the past, but "Our Mutual Friend" is his finest stab at merging Nyman-like strings and rhythm with devastating, dramatic vocals. Singing of infidelity and the damage it causes, Hannon sounds absolutely floored. In an interview with Kitty Empire talking of his aspirations going into the album's recording, Hannon claimed he simply wanted to create a beautiful album, one that "sounds gorgeous on [his] stereo, with a roaring fire and a glass of sherry and a Labrador at [his] feet." With the thrilling and poignant Absent Friends, he has more than succeeded. It ranks high among his finest albums.

Bellissimo disco pop, non c'è che dire, datato 2004 ha tutte le carte in regola per poter divenire un masterpiece, arrangiamenti raffinati, accordi complessi, melodie orecchiabili ma che rimangono dentro e danno un senso di freschezza e piacere. Bellissima la title track Absent Friends o le doppie voci di Come Home Billy Bird, così come il pianoforte dell'ultimo pezzo Charmed Life.. -

FLEET FOXES - Fleet Foxes
Borrowing from ageless folk and classic rock (and nicking some of the best bits from prog and soft rock along the way), on their self-titled debut album Fleet Foxes don't just master the art of taking familiar influences and making them sound fresh again, they give a striking sense of who they are and what their world is like. Fleet Foxes' cover appears vaguely medieval, yet their song titles reference the Blue Ridge Mountains -- never mind that they're actually from Seattle -- but it's the ease and skill with which they mix and match British and American folk and rock from the far and not too distant past that makes the band's music so refreshing. While this mix could be contrived or indulgent, Fleet Foxes use restraint, structuring their flourishes into three- and four-minute pop songs full of chiming melodies and harmonies that sound like they've been summoned from centuries of traditional songs and are full of vivid, universal imagery: mountains, birds, family, death. Despite drawing from so many sources, there's a striking purity to Fleet Foxes' sound. Robin Pecknold's voice is warm and sweet, with just enough grit to make phrases like "premonition of my death" sound genuine, and the band's harmonies sound natural, and stunning, whether they're on their own or supported by acoustic guitars or the full, plugged-in band. "Tiger Mountain Peasant Song" and "Meadowlarks" show just how much the Foxes do with the simplest elements of their music, but Fleet Foxes' best songs marry that purity with twists that open their sound much wider. As good as the Sun Giant EP was, Fleet Foxes saved many of their best songs for this album. "White Winter Hymnal" is remarkably beautiful, building from a vocal round into glorious jangle pop with big, booming drums that lend a sense of adventure as the spine-tingling melody lightens some of the lyrics' darkness ("Michael you would fall and turn the white snow red as strawberries in summertime"). The suite-like "Ragged Wood" moves from a galloping beat to sparkling acoustic picking, then takes a trippy detour before returning to a more thoughtful version of its main theme. "Quiet Houses" and "He Doesn't Know Why"'s driving pianos show off the band's flair for drama. Dazzling songs like these are surrounded by a few songs that find the band leaning a little more heavily on its influences. "Your Protector" nods to Zeppelin's misty, mournful side, and "Blue Ridge Mountains" is the kind of earthy yet sophisticated song CSNY would have been proud to call their own. But, even when the songs aren't as brilliant as Fleet Foxes' highlights, the band still sounds alluring, as on the lush interlude "Heard Them Stirring." Throughout the album, the band sounds wise beyond its years, so it's not really that surprising that Fleet Foxes is such a satisfying, self-assured debut.

A questo melange, aggiungono cori alla Motown, diluiti in paesaggistiche fantasie strumentali..
